AntSnes Release 0.3

The new AntSnes release 0.3 is now ready. The current release contains mainly minor bug fixes and improves usability. The sound support is still missing 🙁
Whats new:

  • can load more than one rom, when launched 🙂
  • shows only supported fileformats on LoadROM dialog
  • Menu is opened at startup (no more black screen)
  • more save slots
  • The emulation is paused, when menu is opened

  1. Install P.I.P.S 1.3(or later if available) to the phone (pips_nokia_1_3_SS.sis)
You will probably find this file faster by googling it, but if you’re out of luck, you can extract it from official nokia plugin, which can be donwloaded from This step is not required for all S60 3rd edition phones, so you can also try to skip this phase.
  2. Install AntSnes.
  3. Enjoy

AntSnes settings:
There is two different graphic modes, the n-gage mode and portrait. The portrait mode is the default. It’s meant for most 3rd edition phones(phones without “n-gage mode”). The orientation modification takes effect, when AntSnes is started next time( a restart required).
The N-gage mode is meant for phones with “n-gage mode” like N95 and N96. The N96 can use the multimediakeys by default, but N95 users must use Magic keys to map keys 1-4 to multimediakeys.

N96 keymap

Key config
Start key config to configure keys. The multimediakeys are not supported in the key config, but you can use any normal keys in here.
Sis installation package: antsnes_v03.sis

    Beta version tested on 6120c.
    Works very good.
Game that I run was Demon’s Crest… in fact there is no emulator that run that game correctly till now.

  2. Psy says:

OK… installed P.I.P.S 1.2 on my phone (can’t install 1.3) and the emu works. Only problem apart from game bugs is that the directional buttons are swapped on landscape mode (they work right on N-Gage and portrait modes).

  3. Jack says:

First of all: great piece of software, I really appreciate your work.
But I think there’s a bug in landscape mode, because in that mode the directions-pad is on the right,
but behaves like it’s on the left. For explame, pressing “left” moves to right, “up” moves down and so on.
Changing those in MagicKey like with the multimedia keys doesn’t work here, I don’t know why.
Maybe you want to check this for the next version 😉

    • Summeli says:

I had to test it, and you’re right. There was a bug. It will be fixed in the next version. Thanks.

  4. jaikben says:

Will there be a updated opengl version ? ( looks much better on tv-out )

    • Summeli says:

Oh, someone really liked that? I have been planning to improve the Opengl ES support( no more green borders etc.), and make an update, where it could be enabled from settings. I could put that to my TODO list and see when I can implement it. The opengl ES should also give a small performance boost. It was a big difference in the alpha version, and it still could help a little.

  5. Trust says:

Thanks for the software. I would like to ask something from you.
    – Remember the folder where rom stays(quicker to launch game, don’t have to navigate through sub folder)
    – Shortcuts for load slot, save slot and may be slot changer e.g. * to save , # to load, and 0 to change slot
    – For my phone 5320XP, when I chose n-gage mode orientation, the game play is on the right side. However, the menu is upsidedown.(may be it is the only problem on my model)
    – saving to slot is slow
    – toggle auto-fire button
I hope it is not too much 🙂 Thanks again for great piece of software

  6. khan4251 says:

Today i had tried playing on tv out .
-on n-gage mode TV screen is flipped (Maybe its only on my tv?)
-on landscape TV screen is ok
Due inverted screen its possible to play on tvout with having d-pad on left side.

  7. khan4251 says:

I think menu will be inverted due to S60 UI (maybe it is also reason for tvout being inverted)
Saving is slower than in previous version but its better than having only one.
I suggest to make some use of right soft key.

  8. crazyteknohed says:

Thanks Summeli, everything is coming along just nicely. ‘Tis better than vSun Plus already 🙂

  9. crazyteknohed says:

By the way, is there any chance of disabling the right softkey that makes the emulator exit straight away? It is annoying if you accidentally press it during gameplay…

    • Summeli says:

I can add a confirmation query for the next release, so you don’t exit the emulator accidentally. Good point 🙂

  10. zaca11 says:

tested in nokia E65 and still is slow: (, also tested in nokia 3250 but the error because of the 176×208 resolution that is: (the next versions will be faster?

  11. Andre Lima says:

When I open a rom appear a white screen instead the emulator after changing the task appear the emulator
    My phone is a E62
    Keep the great work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  12. jaikben says:

yeah, opengles is the way to go, maybe you could search on the inet the source code for the dell axim 51v ( wince ) opengles snes, worked great

    • Summeli says:

I think that I will just improve my own opengl es implementations. I used it as a proof of concept in the alpha release.

  13. d3f4t3 says:

Hi. I installed AntSnes 0.3 Beta on my n93 (os 9.1)
WOW…The Speed and Compatibility is great..but, the load times were a little bit long…
In Landscape Mode (320×240) my buttons are mirrored (means left is right and up is down and vice versa), it would be great if there were configuration for the Movement Keys!
Fullscreen, sound support, a little bit more speed and remember the rom file folder and this emulator is nearly PERFECT! Thanks..!!!

    • Summeli says:

yeah, there is a bug in landscape mode, the keys should be mirrored only in the n-gage mode. it will be fixed in 0.4 release.

  14. crazyteknohed says:

I think it would be better if you could only exit the emulator via the menu (a la Picodrive, vBag et al), rather than having a dedicated exit key for two reasons:
    a) the more difficult it is to accidentally exit a game, the better
    b) it frees up one of the softkeys

  15. zaca11 says:

launch the next version that will be faster to play on Nokia N73? will have the option to enable sound? (Even running slow)? we have this very slow: (

    • Summeli says:

The next version will be faster. Some games are now even too fast for N96 and N73. Both phones are now suffering from tearing efects. I’ll see if I can fix that.. I have run several test cases for sound, and it’s not about speed. There is a bug somewhere in my port, and I have to find it to fix the sound. I might make the 0.4 release without sound, because it’s already a lot better than 0.3.

  16. zaca11 says:

any game then you can play with sound in Nokia N73?

    • Summeli says:

I didn’t say any game. Perhaps some. The N73 has still very limited hardware. I also have to find the bug, to fix it, so it might not be fixed at the next release.

  17. jaikben says:

great to hear about the update will it include opengles for supported devices?

  18. zaca11 says:

the next version you can enable the sound in some games? 😀

  19. urrri says:

Thanks for your work! Landscape mode w’ll supported?in 0.3 it;s applicated, but doesn’t work(((

  20. urrri says:

On my e71 upper border of screen is cut((

  21. urrri says:

In my regret i don’t know your mail. All ROM’s is PAL.Give me your mail(or send me mail and i ask on that adress) and i send screnshots with big pleasure.

  22. LiL_Stenly says:

I see that new version come out, very good optimizations.
I had one question summeli or that is more like request for the next release.
Could you make some emulation speed options because some games runs faster than normal and it will be good somehow to slow down the emulation speed?
Or just use some framerate options to slow down the gameplay?
    What you think about that?
And I think that sound emulation can be done after anything else work properly, really, you no need to pick up more work with the sound emulation at the moment till the emulator have some issues to be fixed, that is my opinion!

    • Summeli says:

Thanks for the feedback. The speed issue should be easy to fix. Can you tell me what games are running too fast, so I could test it? I want to fix the autoframerate, so the speed doesn’t require any user interaction.

  23. LiL_Stenly says:

    Sorry for the late replay.
Hmmm, Taz-mania, Daffy Duck – The Marvin Mansion, Lion King and Jungle Book, there have more titles but I forgot their names.
I didn’t saw a game that running slowly than normal, that are the good news.
And I don’t know why, but Breath Of Fire II (E) running in black and white when you start playing.
    Some suggestions.
Did you think about to put multiple keymaps, I mean one button to proceed two actions, that would be useful in some games?
And separate keymaps for every game?

    • Summeli says:

Thanks for the game list. Now I have more games to test with..
I really haven’t thought about multiple keymaps, or separate keymaps for each game.

  24. Ricardo says:
